Turning education into action.

Here in the DDCI offices, we are getting excited about next Thursday 24th April, as we have two brilliant education events taking place that day.

We really hope you can join us!

First off for the day, DDCI and IDEA are delighted to announce a Webinar with Dr. Alan Cibils, Argetinian economist and activist. Dr Cibils will share lessons from Argentina’s experience of debt crisis and debt default that are relevant to Ireland and other European countries in debt crisis. This will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Nessa Ni Chasaide, on how we can translate learning about debt justice into action. This event is open to all but might be of particular interest to people working in Development Education.

See here for more info.

Time: 13:00-14:00

Economics that values people and the planet.

Secondly, later that day, in association with UCD School of Social Justice we will launch our new online critical literacy tool for adult learners, Econowha? This is a completely free online reading and learning tool for adult learners.

The economic system we live in does not serve the majority of the people, but many of us feel that economics is too complicated to understand.Econowha? promotes critical literacy, and economics that values people and the planet.

The launch will feature a panel and roundtable discussion, facilitated by Stephen McCloskey (Director of Centre for Global Education, Belfast and member of IDEA National Council). The panelists include Mark Malone (critical activist and author of Econowha?), Niamh McCrea (Carlow IT, Community Development), Cathleen O Neill (Kilbarrack Community Development Project), and Conor McCabe (UCD School of Social Justice).

Time: 13.00 to 16.30.

Place: Dublin City Centre, TBC.
