Workshop A: The Irish Debt Crisis - What Happened? Community education and debt.
Led by DDCI.

This workshop will present a recently launched community education resource developed by DDCI and The Spectacle of Defiance and Hope. The resource is designed to create an empowered space for people to explore how private banking debt was made public, the impact of austerity on their lives, and to discuss actions that can be taken to address this gross social injustice. This session is for people who are interested in running the workshop with their groups or in their communities, trade unions, or organisations.

Workshop B: Transparency and Accountability - Why and how to carry out a participatory people's audit of debt.
Led by Chris Fanning of 'Observatorio Ciudadano Municipal Project' in Spain.

This workshop will present the case for participatory people's audits of public debt. It will be led by Chris Fanning of Observatorio Ciudadano Municipal, an organisation which has facilitated participatory audits of the impact of debt at a municipal level in Catalonia. Audits can be a very effective way of engaging people in the financial operations of their local government. The workshop will look at how to go about doing this, and brainstorming ideas on how audits in Ireland might work.
