A Day for Debt Justice

Oct 15th: A Day for Debt Justice
October 15th
October 15, is the 25th Anniversary of the death of Thomas Sankara - revolutionary leader and President of Burkina Faso from 1983 until his assasination in 1987.
Three months before he was killed, Sankara spoke at the Summit of the Organization of African Unity (now African Union) and challenged African governments to repudiate the debt. His speech could not be more relevant today.
On this important occasion, our friends in Jubilee South have re-circulated
1) the Nairobi Declaration on Debt Repudiation issued by debt movements from the south and north countries during the International Strategy Conference on Debt Repudiation held in Kenya in June 2006
2) an article on Thomas Sankara by Demba Dembele, a colleague from Africa Jubilee South
3) JSAPMDD Perspectives and Platform on Debt.
Important reflections for today and indeed these days.
In solidarity
